NATIVE AMERICAN SETTLEMENT
With an abundance of wildlife, farmable land and access to the Tugaloo River, it is no surprise that the Cherokee chose this beautiful and bountiful spot, now called Tugaloo Bend, to establish the "Estatoe" village. Oh to have been a fly on the wall to observe the daily activities of the people and the village.
While one can only imagine what it was like back then, archaeological digs conducted by the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Georgia, uncovered various artifacts and remnants of structures providing some clues about the people and life at the village.
